Miami Police Debut Electric Patrol ATV Scooters in Wynwood

On a weekday morning in Wynwood, the City of Miami Police Department introduced two new patrol units that look a little different from what we’re used to seeing. They’re quiet. They’re compact. They move like they belong in traffic, but also on the sidewalk.

They’re electric ATV scooters — the MIA Four X4 — and they’re now part of the police department’s equipment rotation. Manufactured by MIA Dynamics USA, a local mobility company based in South Florida, these scooters are designed for both urban streets and tight pedestrian zones.

“We’re just trying to find innovative and creative ways to get around and better protect and serve the community,” said Cmdr. Alex Valdes.

That thinking makes a lot of sense in neighborhoods like Wynwood, where packed sidewalks and jammed traffic often slow down response. Police on foot have reach, but not speed. Squad cars have power, but not flexibility. The scooter fills the space in between.
Why This ATV Scooter Was Chosen

The MIA Four X4 wasn’t picked for looks. It was chosen because it can do things most scooters — and most vehicles — can’t.

Here’s why it works:

  • 4-wheel stability for balance and control across curbs, sidewalks, and uneven terrain
  • All-terrain independent suspension that smooths out city streets and event flooring
  • Removable 60V 35Ah battery with up to 75 miles of range — built for long shifts
  • 7200W peak dual motor drive with strong torque for fast starts and controlled stops
  • Wide deck and weight capacity for carrying gear without sacrificing stability
  • Integrated LED lighting (headlight, brake, turn signals) for visibility in all conditions
  • Modular design that allows mounting for radios, first aid kits, or department-specific accessories

This setup gives officers a way to move quickly and safely through places where traditional vehicles either slow down or get in the way.

Built for the Way Miami Moves

Wynwood is just the beginning. There are dozens of places around the city — and plenty more around the country — where a traditional police vehicle doesn’t make sense.
Art walks. Street festivals. Beach zones. Campus grounds. Stadium corridors. City parks.
Places where moving fast without being boxed in matters. And where being seen — without being separated by glass and steel — helps build trust with the public.

Looking Ahead

Miami PD isn’t the only department dealing with dense foot traffic, tight urban areas, or event-related gridlock. And they won’t be the last to look for smarter ways to move through it.

What happened this week in Wynwood is a glimpse of how city mobility is shifting — not just toward electric, but toward vehicles built for real-time response.
